FAQs
What is ABA?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) utilizes the principles of learning and behavior to increase skills to improve an individual’s quality of life. By uniting parents, caregivers, and individuals, ABA therapy utilizes the functions of behavior, data, and reinforcement to systematically teach a variety of skills.
Why ABA therapy over other therapies for ASD?
With over 30 years of scientific data to support it, ABA is the only evidence-based practice endorsed by the Surgeon General for the treatment of autism.
Will ABA cure my child of ASD?
Our goal is to not fix or cure autism, but to eliminate barriers and teach functional and meaningful skills that make a difference in your child’s life. In some cases, therapy can decrease the symptoms of ASD to a level where your child isn’t significantly impacted in their daily life.
What makes Spectra Different?
At Spectra Behavioral Health, LLC we strive to lead the area in two main ways:
Our team- focused approach. We understand that the big changes happen when everyone is involved. We collaborate with each other, with other members of your child’s school and therapeutic team, and most importantly, with you. We have higher expectations than most, but it’s only because we have seen time and time again that the key to lasting success isn’t a quick fix but giving caregivers a “toolbox”.
Our commitment to balancing high-quality care and elements of the natural environment in our space and programming. We understand the success of a data-driven and analytical clinical approach combined with settings including components of classrooms such as centers, group time and play.
What services do you offer?
We currently offer in-clinic, intensive Early Intervention services to those diagnosed with ASD and consultative ABA services. Stay tuned to our Instagram and website as we are always looking to expand our services to support our families!
What is the difference between intensive and consultative services?
Intensive Early Intervention services consist of half-day therapy sessions where a therapist works with your child to teach language, play skills, social communication, and other pre-academic skills. Your child typically receives 6-20 hours of one-on-one therapy per week and you will have ongoing parent training opportunities with your child’s supervisor.
Consultative ABA services include caregiver support sessions and individual support sessions directly with a BCBA. These appointments typically last 60-90 minutes and occur on a weekly or bi-weekly schedule to promote behavior change at home, school, or in the community. Consultative sessions are specifically designed to meet the needs of families waiting to receive Early Intervention services OR for families who could benefit from some level of support but an intensive schedule is not necessary. Some potential goals of consultative services could include promoting language and social communication, behavior management strategies, improving emotional regulation skills, developing home routines, toilet training, and promoting independence with daily living skills.
What is my role as a caregiver?
We request parents participate in their child’s program as much as possible. This includes observing sessions, taking data on behaviors, and implementing goals we provide to the parents. We require parents to attend monthly progress meetings and to attend a child-specific parent training once per month with your individual case manager. Our ultimate goal is to work ourselves out of a job! By working together with caregivers, we are able to transfer behavior techniques so they may be implemented by the parent long after we are gone.
What insurance do you accept?
We currently accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, Anthem’s Healthy Blue, Aetna, Medica, Cigna, United Health Care, UMR and Nebraska Total Care.
Email directors@spectraomaha.com if you would like us to look into your policy to identify your coverage. We also accept self-pay clients at an insurance-reimbursement comparable rate (average across insurance reimbursements)
